Electric Box Mural Project

Aerial view of a coastal town with streets and buildings.

Coming Soon!

The electric box mural project is a public art initiative that transforms electrical control boxes into small-scale works of art. The team at DiRT & Glitter have designed seven murals which will be painted onto to these otherwise utilitarian structures, turning them into visually engaging features within the streetscape. This project is open to participants in the DiRT & Glitter summer program, ages 16+.

The purpose of this project is to enhance neighborhood aesthetics, deter graffiti and vandalism, and create a stronger sense of place. The designs will reflect local history, culture, natural landscapes, or community identity, making each box a unique expression of the area. Because of their visibility and relatively low cost, electric box mural projects are an effective and scalable way for cities to integrate public art into everyday infrastructure while supporting local artists and community pride. All necessary contracts are in place and the locations for the first round of murals have been selected. The designs will go before the Planning Commission for approval on May 14, 2026. Stay tuned for more updates!
