Filming Incentives

1/6

We Are Film-Friendly

The City of Crescent City offers a local filming incentive package, which we hope to use as an economic development tool to attract outside production spending while leveraging the community’s existing natural and cultural assets. Film, television, and commercial productions bring immediate, short-term economic activity through local hiring, lodging, dining, equipment rentals, and use of local services. Even modest productions can generate significant direct spending that circulates through the local economy and supports small businesses.

Beyond the immediate impact, filming builds long-term visibility and place branding. When Del Norte County’s coastal landscapes and redwood forests are featured on screen, they serve as powerful marketing tools that can increase tourism and interest in the community. This type of exposure is particularly valuable for a smaller, rural city that may not have large marketing budgets but can compete on scenery and authenticity.

Filming incentives also help make Crescent City more competitive with other jurisdictions that actively court productions. By offsetting certain costs, such as permit fees, location fees, or street closure fees, the City can reduce barriers to entry and position itself as film-friendly, encouraging repeat visits and longer stays. Over time, this can support the development of a local creative economy, including skilled crew, support services, and partnerships with regional organizations.

The intent behind the filming incentive package the City has put together is to not only stimulate economic activity but also reinforce community identity and sustainable growth.
